Tondaligan boardwalk set to boost tourism
THE boardwalk project by the shoreline of Tondaligan Beach in Barangay Bonuan Gueset is set to be completed early next year to further boost tourism in Dagupan City.
Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia told alumni of Dagupan City National High School during their homecoming Thursday night that this and other developments in the city under Mayor Belen Fernandez are aimed at showcasing the city’s potentials.
He said people can enjoy the scenery of Tondaligan Beach better once the boardwalk project is completed and encouraged his audience to have their “selfies” posted on social media so everybody can see how beautiful the boardwalk project is.”
De Venecia, in collaboration with Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez and the Department of Public Works and Highways, had secured a P75- million fund from the national government for the project.
“We’re excited to see the positive results in Dagupan for its tourism and let’s see how it will transform the community where people going to the place can simply walk, stroll or bike,” he said.
The one-kilometer boardwalk starts from the location of the giant “jackstones” and the soon-to-be constructed MacArthur Park that will feature the reenactment of the landing of MacArthur in the shores of Bonuan Blue Beach.
The redevelopment of Tondaligan is one of the pet projects of both De Venecia and Fernandez who both share the same vision on the need to boost the city’s tourism industry as a way to prime up the city’s economy and create jobs for the unemployed.
“The design is good, it’s going to be multi-purpose so it’s both for pedestrians and bicycles and there are planters in between and the scape of the boardwalk is beautiful,” De Venecia said, adding that he expects it to be one of the crown jewels of tourism in Dagupan.
District Engineer Edita Manuel of the Second Pangasinan Engineering District said the boardwalk is 5.4 meters wide for pedestrians and bikers’ lane is 2.5 meters plus planters in between so it’s 13 meters wide, she said. (PhilStar Wire Service)
