SP oks Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan

FOR CURRICULAR YEARS 2019-2024

LINGAYEN – The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Plan for Curricular Years (CYs) 2019-2024 formulated by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).

The SP, in a special session held on December 7, approved Provincial Resolution No.2052-2018, adopting the six-year DRRM Plan endorsed by the PDRRMC.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Chief Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro told the SP that the updated DRRM Plan is a guide for the implementation of the different programs of the provincial government.

“The modified DRRM Plan is in consonance with national and international standards, which include the integration of climate change advocacies plan,” Oro said.

The plan lists programs, projects and activities which shall serve as road map for DRRM in order to attain sustainable development.

“The DRRM Plan increases disaster mitigation and prevention opportunities especially in the promotion of the people’s welfare and security towards gender and rights-based DRRM,” the resolution reads.

Key components of the National DRRM Plan adopted in the DRRM Plan of the province include: Information and Education Campaign, Capacity Building, DRRMLocalization, Risk Assessment and Plans, Preparedness for Emergency Disaster Response, Continuity of Essential Services, and Partnerships.

R.A. 10121 requires a Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to formulate and adopt a DRRM Plan.  The previous DRRM Plan of the province covered CYs 2012-2018.
