LINGAYEN – Local Government Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin B. Diño commended the efforts of the provincial government for its support to the national government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Speaking at the Provincial Anti-Crime and Peace & Order Forum on December 3 attended by over 2,000 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) Gymnasium, Diño extolled the efforts of Gov. Amado Espino III for establishing a rehabilitation center in Pangasinan.

He said the rehabilitation center in Burgos not only enables drug victims start new lives, but strengthens the campaign of the national government against illegal drugs with the support of the members of Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Diño cited the importance of the role of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) being “frontliners” or the “first line of defense” in sustaining the peace and order in their communities and challenged the barangay officials to take an active part in the shared mission.

“All hardworking barangay officials will be recognized,” he stressed at the same time warned that irresponsible officials will be penalized if found guilty of involvement in corruption in delivery of ghost projects and payment for ghost personnel.

Diño commended the Pangasinan PNP led by P/Sr. Superintendent. Wilson Lopez for the improved crime statistics in the province.

Lopez reported that only 254 out of 1,364 barangays in the province remain drug-affected.

Meanwhile, Governor Espino cited the barangay captains and SK leaders for the strong partnership between the provincial government and the barangays.

Present at the forum were: DILG Regional Director James Fadrilan, DILG Provincial Director Agnes De Leon and SK Federation President Jerome Vic Espino. (PIO/SMDG)
