BIGGEST IN REGION 1

THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) finally passed the 2019 annual budget of Dagupan City in the amount of P1.010 billion during a special session called by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez on December 7.

The P1.010 billion outlay is the biggest annual budget ever approved for Dagupan in history. Dagupan is the first city in Region 1 whose annual budget broke the P1 billion mark in FY 2019.

Councilor Jeslito Seen, chair of the committee on finance and appropriations, who moved for the passage of next year’s annual budget, said the passage of next year’s annual budget  was approved by all 12 councilors present after due public hearing, exactly 24 days before the beginning of the next fiscal year.

At P1.010 billion annual budget, it is P62 million more than the annual budget of Dagupan in 2017, bigger by P242 million than the 2016 annual budget in the amount of P768 million and P369 million bigger than the annual budget of the city in 2015 in the amount of P691 million.

Also approved was the Annual Investment Plan (AIP) of the city for FY 2019, including its supporting plans, in the amount of P1.48 billion.

Mayor Fernandez proposed the P1.010billion annual budget for next year with the assurance that the city can raise the fund without introducing new taxes or increasing taxes but through intensive collection of taxes.

Among the new sources of taxes will include the Golden Dragon’s City Mall, the SM Hyper Mart, the Sta. Lucia subdivision and other businesses that started operation under the open-door policy launched by Mayor Fernandez through the Dagupan City Investment and Development Board.

Councilor Seen said the 2019 annual budget will cover P366,421, 887 for general public services, P331,650,180 for Social Services, P205,683,785 for Economic Services, and P126,244,146 for Other Services.

The annual income of Dagupan City saw a dramatic increase since Mayor Fernandez took over the reins of the city government from the Lim administration whose biggest annual budget was P612 million in 2013.  (Leonardo Micua)
