Bong Go seeks review of juvenile justice system
ADOPTED SON OF PANGASINAN
LINGAYEN—Win or lose in his bid to
become senator, former Presidential Assistant to the President Christopher
Lawrence “Bong” Go” vowed to serve as a link between the people
of Pangasinan and Malacanang after he received a resolution of the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan (SP) on December 20 adopting him as a son of the province.
“Salamat mga taga-Pangasinan. Ibig
sabihin, ako po ay inyong anak na at kapatid na,” Go said after Vice
Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim read the SP resolution and handing a copy of
the same to him when he called on Governor Amado Espino III at his office at
the capitol.
He said if there is anything that the people of Pangasinan want to bring to the
attention of the President, ” you can tap me as your bridge to
Malacanang”.
In his speech before provincial government employees at the Pangasinan Training
and Development Center, Go said that if he wins as senator, among his
priorities is to seek a review of the country’s juvenile justice system that
absolves young people of their crimes simply because they are minors.
He lamented that the arrested minors being used by crime syndicates as drug couriers and in other crimes like theft and robbery are quickly released instead of being punished for their wrongdoing,
At the same time, Go said that the campaign against illegal drugs of President Duterte will continue up to the end of his term, adding that “I am with him in this campaign up to the end”.
As a senator he said he will push for legislation that will impose heavier penalties for drug pushers and drug lords. “Tutulong po tayo sa Pangulong Duterte in bringing down the problem of drugs up to the barest minimum, and slammed critics for saying that the war on drugs is anti-poor.
He believes that when a barangay captain rejects drugs, no drug will enter his barangay.
He urged the provincial government to install “Malasakit” Centers in every public hospital so the poor can be assisted immediately.
He said a “Malasakit”
Center will be manned by personnel of the Department of Health, Department of
Social Services and Development, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and the
Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, the agencies that can provide financial assistance.
