2018 Dagupan City fiesta celebration starts

THE almost month-long Dagupan City Fiesta celebration (December 7 to January 1, 2109)  kicked off last week, with a motorcade along the downtown area, followed by the opening of the Paseo de Belen and the lighting of Christmas symbols along the Jose de Venecia Expressway as well as the lighting of Christmas Tree in front of the Dagupan City Museum.

Councilor Jeslito Seen, who was named by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as ‘hermano mayor’ of this year’s city  fiesta with Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo as his deputy, said these and other activities underscore the significance of  this year’s theme “Ipagdiwang ang Pasko at Pag-asenso”.

He said this year’s celebration will highlight the dramatic rise of Dagupan City as one of the fast-rising cities in the Philippines, with hopefully over one billion peso budget for next year, asa commercial as well as educational center and health care center in Pangasinan and Region 1.

On December 27 with a fiesta mass and Procession at St. John Cathedral in honor of St. John the Evangelist, the patron saint of Dagupan and of fishermen.

All barangays in Dagupan City are also set to build their own versions of the Nativity Scene using indigenous materials at the Paseo de Belen, now a permanent fixture in the Dagupan CityFiesta.

Other activities include the Senior Citizens’ Night, Dagupan City Invitational and Open Boxing Championship (2018 Mayor Belen T. Fernandez Cup), Night of theKnights “Run for Peace” 2018;

Ms. Balon Dagupan beauty pageant, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Dagupan night, Balon Dagupan Job Fair at CSI City Mall Atrium, NGO Night/People/Night,Barangay Night,  Rotary Night, DCNHSAlumni Night, Dalton Night, St. John Cathedral Grand Alumni Homecoming,;

 2nd Balon Dagupan Invitational Shootfest, Volunteers Day, Battle of Bands “Rakrakan ed Dagupan”, Drum and LyreCompetition, Educators’ Night, “Agew na Ogogaw” and the Beat the Feat5th Edition, and Hip Hop Dance Contest.

The Jayceeken will host Bagat Ed Estacio’y Tren, a feeding program and free kitchen soup will be served throughout the traditional Misa de Gallo at the  St. John Cathedral.

The Edades Day will be held throughArts and Panting Contests at the City Museum on December 23 to honor  the late national artist on Modern Arts Victorio Edades from Barangay Bolosan.

The Dagupan City fiesta ends onRizal Day at the City Plaza.

Councilor Seen said although the fiesta officially ends on December 30, the Baratillo Trade Fair and Food Strip will stay till January 10 next year. (LeonardoMicua)
