FAMILIES and visitors that trooped to the Lingayen beach for their holiday break returned to their homes safely, thanks to the watchful eyes of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) that stood by the whole weekend ready to respond to emergency situations.

The five teams, backed by the Provincial  Health Emergency Response Team (PHERT) of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) were composed of water search and rescue teams (WASAR) and nurses and ambulances were on standby along the beach front of Lingayen to guide the beach goers in order to avoid drowning incidents.

No swimming policy at 6 in the evening and beyond was strictly enforced.

Johm Cendaña of the Operations Center of the PDRRMC said a unit remained on full alert until the end of the long weekend, Sunday.

The response teams were on the lookout for swimmers who were under the influence of liquor and those swimming under heat of the sun from 10 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon who could suffer from heat stroke. (Nora Dominguez)
