PHO places 6 towns, 2 cities in rabies watch list
LINGAYEN—The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has placed two cities and six municipalities in its rabies watch list after 11 persons were reported to have died from either a scratch or bite of an infected animal since January this year.
According to PHO’s Rodhalia Binay-an, places under watch are Dagupan City, Urdaneta City, Lingayen, Manaoag, Urbiztondo, Malasiqui, Mangaldan and Sta. Maria.
Two victims have died in Dagupan City (Barangays Boquig and Pogo Chico), two in Lingayen (Estanza and Malimpuec), two in Urdaneta City (Nancamaliran East and Pinmaludpod) while one death each was reported in Urbiztondo (Angatel), Malasiqui (Pasima), Mangaldan (Salaan), Manaoag (Tebuel) and in Sta. Maria (Poblacion East).
The report indicated a 38 percent increase of rabies cases compared to the same period last year. In 2017, eight died due to rabies covering the said period.
The data of rabies cases came from the 14 government sentinel sites, Region 1 Medical Center and private hospitals in Pangasinan. (PhilStar Wire Service)
