PDEA still validating Dagupan as drug-cleared
DAGUPAN City, although already declared as drug-cleared by the local police, its status is still undergoing validation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
“Nakapila po tayo sa validation ng PDEA,” P/Chief Inspector Madonna Cabiles of the Dagupan City Police, told KBP Forum in Dagupan on Nov. 15.
She pointed out that all the 31 barangays of the city were already cleared by the local PNP but this clearance will have yet to go through validation by PDEA before the city can be finally declared as drug-free.
Asked by newsmen why drug personalities continue to be arrested, Cabiles pointed out that these are newly identified drug personalities or new faces in the drug trade.
None of those being arrested now are former drug surrenderers, she added.
She said that the Dagupan Police continue to operate against illegal drugs, citing the 13 successful buy-bust operations in different parts of the city last October.
The arrested suspects were all charged in court and behind bars, she said.
When asked where these arrested personalities were sourcing their illegal drugs, Cabiles said: “Dyan po medyo nahihirapan”.
She said based on the buy-bust operations conducted by the local PNP, in coordination with the PDEA, drug transactions usually occur in thickly populated areas like the poblacion.
Cabiles merely chuckled when she was reminded that drug suspects being arrested in nearby towns pointed to Dagupan as the source of their supply of shabu.
“Siguro, inililigaw lang nila ang imbestigasyon, “she said. (Leonardo Micua)
