Pangasinan wins Corn Achievers Award anew
2018 HALL OF FAME
STA. BARBARA–The provincial government bagged the coveted 2018 Hall of Fame Corn Achievers Award in recognition of its major achievement in the production of high-grade corn, Gov. Amado Espino III announced here on Wednesday.
The governor announced it during the distribution of Shallow Tube Well Irrigation Projects and the Awarding of Project Interventions under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) at the Provincial Nursery here.
Espino and officials of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturists and others from the provincial government will be in Davao City on Nov. 15 and 16 to receive the award from the National Corn Achievers Award body.
Pangasinan qualified for the 2018 Hall of Fame Award after winning the award for three years in a row — 2015, 2016 and 2017.
As a Hall of Fame Corn Achievers Awardee, Pangasinan will receive a cash prize of P5 million from the Department of Agriculture, sponsor of the award.
This equaled the high honor received by the province when it earlier bagged the Hall of Fame Rice Achievers Award in 2015 after successively winning the national contest in year’s 2012,2013 and 2014.
The Hall of Fame Rice Achievers Award was won by Pangasinan when his father, Rep. Amado Espino Jr. was governor.
He said the P5 million cash prize will be in used in buying shallow tube wells so more agricultural lands in Pangasinan will be irrigated.
