NFA set to buy palay at P20.70

THE National Food Authority (NFA) in Western Pangasinan has announced it is ready to embark on palay procurement operations as the rice harvest season for the main crop is now in full swing in the province.

NFA Region 1 Director Jaime Hadlocon said the government support price for clean and dry palay was maintained at P17 per kilo but an additional P3.70 will be added as incentive for various purposes.

The additional P3.70 per kilo as incentive is for following: 20 centavo per kilogram drying incentive, 20 to 50 centavo per kilogram delivery incentive (based on distance of farm location to the collecting points/NFA warehouse), Cooperative Development Incentive Fund of 30 centavos per kilogram and Buffer Stocking Incentive (BSI) of P3 per kilogram.

The effective total price is P20.70 per kilogram.

NFA added the P3.7 incentive per kilogram to encourage individual farmers, farmers’ cooperatives and farmers’ associations to deliver their palay to the NFA, boosting palay procurement operations by the agency.

Hadlocon said it is in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to NFA to provide farmers a ready market for their produce and enjoy a better profit margin especially if the ex-farm price of palay is lower than the government price.

It is also in line with the President’s directive mandating to increase its rice buffer stock primarily through local palay buying that could help minimize rice importation.

He said the NFA Western Pangasinan branch has already deployed trucks to pick up palay of farmers at designated collecting points, particularly in far-flung areas, for delivery to NFA buying stations. (Leonardo Micua)
