Dagupan earns 4th regional award

2017 SEAL OF CHILD-FRIENDLY LOCAL GOVERNANCE

THE regional Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) picked Dagupan City as the regional awardee for the 2017 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG), the city’s fourth successive citation.

The award was presented in a ceremony held on November 12 at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen town.

The city was again cited for the city government’s performance and commitment in promoting child rights to survival, development, protection and participation.

The citation was signed by Emmanuel Leyco – CWC Chairperson and Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Social Welfare and Development; and Eduardo Año – CWC member and Officer-in-Charge at the Department of Interior and Local Government.

 City Social Welfare and Development Office chief Leah Aquino, City Planning and Development Officer Engr. Josephine Corpuz, City Health Officer Ophelia T. Rivera, and CSWDO Supervising Social Worker Irene Ferrer received the award on behalf of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and the city government.

As SCFLG regional awardee, the city is included in the roster of national finalists for the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities.

The city is the sole contender of the region for the national award under the Independent Component City category.

City Information Officer Leni Basa said among the notable child-friendly activities undertaken by the Dagupan City government includes the holding of the yearly Children’s Summit, Libreng Paligo, Feeding Program, Health Summit, Music Summit, Journalism Summit, Gulayan sa Paaralan, and the new programs “Lehitimo Ako, Batang Dagupeño”, Junior Health Advocate Junior Fire Marshal, Bulilit Program which include Business Livelihood Literacy Training, among others.

Mayor Fernandez is also putting up the Special Program for the Arts building at the Dagupan City National High School, the Special Education building at West Central Elementary School and the Malued Special Science building.

In addition to these, the first e-Library of Dagupan is now also operational.

The National Awarding Ceremony will be held at the Malacañang Palace on November 20. (CIO/VDV)
