Comelec disqualifies 10 bets for past violations

THE Commission on Elections has rejected the certificates of candidacy of ten persons who already run in past elections and failed to submit their respective Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) as required by law.

Provincial Election Supervisor Marino Salas said the ten were already in fact informed officially of their perpetual disqualification by Comelec to run for any position before the filing of CoCs in October.

Salas said a Comelec order has been issued the persons who failed to submit their SOCEs.

“They knew beforehand that they were already disqualified but they still attempted to file their certificates of candidacy but our election officers did not accept them because of the Comelec order,” Salas said.

Pasaway lang talaga sila. Maybe they thought the Comelec was not aware of their non-compliance,” he said.

Salas said the ten whom he did not identify filed their COCs for congressman, mayor, and councilor.

He pointed out that perpetual disqualification is meted on second offense for non-submission of SOCE in previous elections. The first offense is only meted a fine.

He said the law requires the filing of SOCE of candidates within 30 days after an election.
