“Ballet and Ballads” wows Pangasinenses
PANGASINENSES had a one of a kind evening when they watched a show that featured the artistic merging of pop songs and classical dance by a group of world-class ballet performers from Ballet Manila and singer Bugoy Drilon performed at the posh Sison Auditorium in Lingayen.
The Manila Broadcasting Corporation and the Kapisanan ng nga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Pangasinan Chapter co-presented the show dubbed “Ballet and Ballads,” a popular production of combined ballet pieces and popular song numbers.
Loud applause and cheers met ballet dancers who performed with Drilon, second Star Dreamer of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2, who sang heartwarming songs.
It was the second time for Drilon to serenade the spectators with his spectacular renditions of original Filipino music and pop music. He was a guest singer of the show last year.
Luke Mejares was the guest artist in the maiden edition of the “Ballet and Ballads” in Pangasinan in 2016.
The “Ballet and Ballads” series were presented in schools, auditoriums and sports arenas in the provinces and in Metro Manila, to popularize ballet and bring it closer to the hearts of the masses by performing ballet to tunes already familiar to the audience.
The repertoire is also packed with numbers that are just pure song or pure dance, ensuring its appeal to the broadest range of viewers.
Prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde is the artistic director of Ballet Manila.
“Hindi na iniisip ng mga tao na ito ay isang elitist na art form na pang-mayaman lang, na pang-edukado lang. Lagi kong sinasabi na basta kapag meron kang mata para mapanuod at meron kang tainga para mapakinggan yong music, ma-appreciate mo ‘yong ballet,” she told the media.
“Sa laki ng hirap ng ginagawa namin sa rehearsal at performance, ‘yong applause at pag-appreciate sa aming sining ay nakakataba ng puso at talagang worth it,” she added.
The Ballet Manila deserves a thunderous ‘Bravo!’ for its most persuasive credence to its claim that “It seeks nothing less than excellence with every performance and offers nothing short of it.” (PIA Pangilinan/AMB)
