1,500 students join Dagupan’s campus journalism confab
WITH FREE REGISTRATION
SOME 1,500 elementary to senior high school students in different schools participated in the two-day Division Schools Press Conference of Dagupan last Nov. 8 at the Stadia in Barangay Lucao.
Dr. Lourdes Servito, assistant schools division superintendent, said the conference aimed to select the best talents who will represent the city’s Schools Division Office (SDO) in the regional level.
She said SDO of Dagupan was first runner-up in the regional level I last year’s contest “and the only way to go is upward, the only way to go is to clinch the championship”.
Dr. Lorna Bugayong, Dagupan’s schools division superintendent, thanked Mayor Belen Fernandez for providing a free venue for the event.
Bugayong added that the number of participants more than doubled because no registration fees were imposed. Precisely to encourage more participation.
Fernandez, said in her speech, that “no child should be left behind in practicing campus journalism,” appreciating the increased participation in this year’s conference.
“I am happy to see now that the number of participants doubled and this hall (Hall 3 of Stadia in Dagupan) is almost full,” she said.
Fernandez has asked Bugayong to reserve in advance as the venue for next year’s campus journalism workshop the Stadia so it can again avail of the space, free. It was the first time to hold the DSPC at the Stadia.
The mayor allotted city funds to cover expenses for the conference to enable the SDO to proceed without imposing a registration fee.
Fernandez pledged to add another P2-million to next year’s campus journalism activities to encourage more participants and give them more opportunities to train in writing workshops.
She said the development of children is the greatest investment of the city. (PhilStar Wire Service)
