THE Region 1 Medical Center will have two more high-rise buildings in addition to the recently inaugurated five-storey Outpatient, Training and Eye Center to serve the growing numbers and needs of patients.

This was revealed by Dr. Roland Mejia, R1MC chief, who said the two new buildings to rise are seven-storeys Tower 1 and Tower 2. The original plan was to build an 11-storey building.

Saying the two high-rise buildings are pet projects of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III. Mejia expects the construction of the two towers to start in January next year.

About P300 million pesos have already been allocated by the Department of Health (DOH) for the two towers, he said.

The present old building, including the wards will be demolished to give way to the two towers. The City Engineering Office, upon the direction of Mayor Belen Fernandez, already issued the required demolition permit.

The eye center is equipped modern facilities and staffed by eye specialists.

The next building to be inaugurated soon will be the new R1MC Cancer Treatment Center in Bonuan Binloc that will make treatment accessible to cancer patients in Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, Mejia said R1MC continues to perform kidney transplant and 10 patients already benefitted from successful transplants done in the center. (Leonardo Micua)
