LINGAYEN – In citing the winners in the two-day 8th Pangasinan Age-Group Chess Championship, Gov. Amado Espino III pledged the provincial government’s support for the young chess players development.

The occasion was the awarding ceremony of the tournament held at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PTDC) from October 13-14.

The governor urged all parents to continue supporting their children’s passion in chess and invite more colleagues and friends to the annual chess tourney organized and sponsored by the provincial government and the Pangasinan Chess League.

The PCF was a brainchild of former governor and now Fifth District Rep. Amado T. Espino, Jr. purposely to discover young chessers in the country to compete in national and international tournaments.

Competition was open for  8 and under category; 10 and under category; 12 and under category; 14 and under category; 16 and under category; 18 and under category; and 20 and under category.

Top ten winners from each division rose above a pool of over 400 participants who hailed not only from Pangasinan but its neighboring provinces and also from Metro Manila. Each winner received a plaque of recognition plus a cash prize.

The top three winners from each tournament category: 8 and under category – Mar Aviel Carredo (1^st place), Jean Antonette Brade (2^nd place) and Clark Jemuel Cabatian (3^rd place); 10 and under category – Shaina Gail Bagorio (1^st place), Charlemagne Romanillos (2^nd place), and Jirah Floravie Cutiyog (3^rd place); 12 and under category – Jersey Marticio (1^st place), Lemmuel Jay Adena (2^nd place) and Nathalia Andrea Pena (3^rd place); 14 and under category – Jan Clifford Labog (1^st place), Jeremy Marticio (2^nd place) and Cyrus Vladimir Francisco (3^rd place); 16 and under category – Christian Mark Daluz (1^st place), Carl Jedrianne Ancheta (2^nd place) and Celso Sandrejo, Jr. (3^rd place); 18 and under category – Macydel Fajardo (1^st place), Melitpo Ocsan, Jr. (2^nd place) and Darry Bernardo (3^rd place); and 20 and under category – Danniel Quizon (1^st place), Romulo Curioso (2^nd place) and Jhoemar Mendiogarin (3^rd place).
