Still no NFA rice but ample commercial rice
FOR RAINY SEASON
WHILE there is still no stock of NFA rice in the market, the National Food Authority in Western Pangasinan assured households that there is enough supply of commercial rice for the rainy season.
The assurance was given by Chona Maramba, administrative officer of NFA Western Pangasinan, amid fears of a rice shortage during the rainy season.
Meanwhile, the rice supply in the market today comes from the farmers who sold to the traders, instead of to NFA.
The price of commercial rice in the market now ranges from ₱40 up to ₱70 per kilo.
She disclosed that some 50,000 bags of NFA rice will be downloaded in the first week of June and another 50,000 bags will arrive soon to augment the supply for the feeding program of local government units, for calamities and BJMP centers.
Maramba pointed out that a good quality of rice is being sold at ₱39 a kilo in thickly populated areas like Dagupan City, intended for the poor sector. (Nora Dominguez)
