Coast Guard sets restrictions on fishermen in W. Pangasinan

PHILIPPINE Coast Guard Sual Substation in Sual has advised fishermen not to venture out to the sea if a weather disturbance is reported to avoid mishaps resulting from huge waves and strong winds.

Lt. Commander Argie Lyn Mahinay said it is not possible for her station to guard and secure all fishermen so she had to keep reminding the fishermen of the risks and hazards when a weather disturbance like the habagat are reported in the area.

She advised the fishermen that a mere warning of gale should be enough to keep the fishermen off the sea.

As of press time, there have been no reported cases of missing fishermen.

PCG Sual is closely monitoring activities of all small fishing vessels in Sual, Labrador, Alaminos City, Anda, Bani, Agno, Burgos, Dasol, Mabini and Infanta throughout the rainy season.

The downside of the restrictions is the increase in prices of fish in the market due to diminished supply throughout the whole week.  (Nora Dominguez)
