Prov’l scholarship program exam results out on June 4
LINGAYEN—The provincial government will release the results of the qualifying examination for the incoming academically competent first year college students on June 4, the province’s chief administrative officer Irmina Francisco has announced.
Francisco, who also chairs the Provincial Scholarship Program Management, Evaluation and Excellence Committee (PSPMEEC), said the top 100 examinees will become college scholarship grantees of the provincial government, who will each receive financial assistance of ₱8,000 every semester, or ₱16,000 for the academic year that starts in June.
A total of 2,486 incoming college students took the “comprehensive” PSP examination conducted by the PSPMEEC on May 12.
Additional 30 slots are allotted for automatic qualifiers to the top 100 PSP examinees. These are valedictorians (or its equivalent) of senior high schools that are recognized by the DepEd.
She noted that from 744 examinees in 2016, a total of 2,039 applicants from congressional districts one, two, and three took the examination at PNHS, recording an increase of 174 percent.
Similarly, from the 179 examinees in 2016, a total of 447 applicants from congressional districts four, five and six took the examination at JGMNHS this year for an increase of 149 percent.
Residents of Dagupan, a chartered city, are excluded from PSP entitlement.
The provincial scholarship for incoming first year collegiate students supports the college education of poor but deserving high school graduates.
The program however, was suspended for two years due to the inception of the Senior High School of the Department of Education.
Francisco added that the provincial government also offers scholarship assistance to students to indigenous peoples and to members of the Muslim federation in Pangasinan, enrolled at the Pangasinan State University. (PIO/MGNO)
