Police chiefs attend summit on prevention of VAW

POLICE chiefs in the province attended the Men Oppose VAW (violence against women) Everywhere (MOVE) Summit held on May 24 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen.

The MOVE Summit was an initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 1 in partnership with the Pangasinan Police and Provincial Office and Provincial Government.

Mona Alavazo, focal person of the Gender and Development Unit of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), said the project was launched to raise level of awareness of the public on the need to protect women against violence.

After the summit, the local police and the municipal social welfare and development offices are expected to organize MOVE chapters in every town and city.

The MOVE summit discussed the gender indicator on national and regional level, situationer on violence against women, provincial situation on VAW, gender sensitivity orientation, orientation on Men Opposed to VAW Everywhere (MOVE). A movie screening of the short film of “Walang Rape sa Bontok” was presented.

PSWDO says it hopes that through MOVE, the violence against women will be prevented with the help of the men and women in uniform in the province. (Nora Dominguez)
