AFTER securing the May 14 barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections, the Pangasinan Police has shifted its focus on the preparations for the security of schools and students during the opening of classes in early June.

P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, police community relations chief, said police will start providing security for the “Brigada Eskwela” campaign.

To boost security measures, he said the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) launched two programs for the school opening: “Adopt A Pedestrian Lane” and “Used Tires Save Lives”.

The “Adopt a Pedestrian Lane” program seeks donors to provide paint to be used on pedestrian lanes in front of schools along highways in the province, Florentino said.

The PNP will initially ask the help of town and city governments to provide the paint and police personnel will do the painting of the white lanes.

The “Used Tires Save Lives” program, on the other hand, will collect used tires that will be painted as traffic signs to be posted in strategic places near schools to warn approaching motorists to slow down.

Meanwhile, PPPO thanked the police personnel from different units and their counterpart in Philippine Army, augmentation forces from the Provincial and Regional Command and Force Multipliers who helped secure and maintain order during the Barangay and SK elections.

Florentino said though the deployment forces had been pulled out, the PNP will continue to be on the alert until the last day of election period on May 21. (Nora Dominguez)
