LINGAYEN —An expanded and comprehensive version of Pistay Dayat (Sea Festival) is expected to be launched next year.

This was stated by Governor Amado I. Espino III in his speech during the commemorative program of Pistay Dayat 2018 on May 1 at the Capitol beachfront as he said that next year’s festival will not only be a thanksgiving for the sea but will serve as a “feast of nature.”

Vowing to solicit the involvement of all Pangasinenses, the governor stressed that the sea festival is a manifestation of Pangasinenses love for environment. Thus, he urged everyone to continue loving and taking care of nature to the best of their ability in order that the younger generation may enjoy in the future the fruits of their labor today.

Also, he thanked all provincial government employees from the top to the lowest ranks who have exerted all efforts in making the various events prepared by the present administration successful just to ensure that Pangasinenses enjoyed to the fullest this year’s celebration of the sea festival.

Noting that next year’s celebration will be repackaged, he revealed that the involvement of all coastal towns and cities in Pangasinan will be needed.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. urged all Pangasinenses to keep uniting and continuously work together to make the sea festival successful as ever.

The vice governor stressed that Pangasinenses should take the lead in loving and taking care of the province and the environment in particular.

During the commemorative program, Gov. Espino and Vice Gov. Calimlim were joined by 2nd District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Members Jeremy Agerico Rosario, Noel Bince, and Salvador Perez, Jr. in awarding the cash prizes of the winners for the Boat Painting competition, an activity which was launched in lieu of Banca Parada and Pakar Awards.

As such, Gov. Espino said that Banca Parada and Pakar Awards were not included this year because barangay officials who are the main participants of the two events are busy preparing for the forthcoming barangay election this May. Thus, he said, the Pistay Dayat executive committee came up with a decision that two regular events of the Sea Festival are temporarily skipped and will resume next year in a bigger scale.

Ceremonial awarding of fishery paraphernalia and fish processing kits for various fisherfolks associations was also conducted during the commemorative program.

Pangasinan First Lady Karina P. Espino, PNP Provincial Director Ronald Oliver Lee, various department heads, Limgas na Pangasinan winners and representatives of various government and non-government entities also participated in the boodle fight.

Before the program, a Thanksgiving Mass which was officiated by Rev. Fr. Dominic Melvin Ma. Ferrer Denina of the Lay Formation Center of Dagupan City was held. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
