A NEOPHYTE in barangay politics in Bonuan Gueset on May 14 won by a landslide over the reelectionist kapitan.
In an official count, Manuel ‘Noel’ Bumanglag who challenged Ricardo ‘Rico’ Mejia who ruled the barangay for 26 long years, was credited with 5,200 votes against Mejia’s 2,963.
Three other candidates for barangay chairman did not come close, namely, Antonio Balolong with 81 votes, Michael Sim 78 votes, and Jose Maramba 19 votes.
Six of the candidates for kagawad in Bumanglag’s Balon Bonuan Gueset ticket also won: David Raguindin, 5,343 votes; Sonny Banjo Manuel, 4,059; Roseanne Pal, 4,028; Renato Castres, 3,625; Reynaldo Paras, 3,366; Ferdinand Soy, 3,174; and Gerardo Meneses, 3,062.
After he was declared winner, Bumanglag reiterated his promise to implement the programs and projects that his team presented during the campaign. He asked the people to feel free to point out any mistakes that he may commit along the way.
Bumanglag, brother-in-law of Mayor Belen Fernandez, promised a “clean, honest and transparent governance and zero graft and corruption”.

Perez wins second term in Barangay Pantal
PANTAL Barangay Chairman Julie Ann Perez was reelected for another term after she prevailed in her one-on-one duel with former Barangay Kapitan Lilia Yasar by 368 votes.
Perez earned her second term in office with four of her teammates for kagawad in tow.
She topped in all areas of Pantal except in Sitio Guibang, Riverside in Sitio Patalan and Pantal East.
Perez admitted this election was tougher than her first match up with Yasar as the latter evidently campaigned harder to regain her position she lost in 2013.
Meanwhile, Perez said she will ensure that Pantal will maintain its status as drug-free barangay by intensifying vigilance in known drug hotbeds in the past.
Pantal is the second largest barangay in Dagupan, second to Barangay Bonuan Gueset, with more than 10,000 registered voters. However, in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, only more than 7,000 cast their votes. (Leonardo Micua)
