Pastor shot dead by tandem-riding hitmen

URDANETA CITY–A pastor was not spared by motorcycle-riding criminals who shot him dead at about 6:05 a.m. on April 3 while he was walking with his wife along Perez Street North in Poblacion here.

Pastor Bernabe Yanong, 42, who is also a cellphone repairman and residing at Estrada Street in Poblacion, Urdaneta, was rushed by an Emergency Medical Response Team of the city to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Urdaneta where he died while undergoing an operation.

His wife, Liza Caramat, 48, was not harmed.

A report of the Urdaneta City Police to the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) did not indicate which religious denomination the pastor belonged to.

The report said, two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle, approached the victim and his wife, and as the drew near, the back rider drew a handgun and opened fire successively on Yanong.

The suspects then sped towards the west direction where they made good their escape.

A team of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered seven fired cartridges of Cal.45 pistol from the crime scene.

The police said the shooting possibly stemmed from a land dispute. (Leonardo Micua)
