HERE’S a chance for Dagupeño workers to get employed in Japan.

Andre Abalos, president of the Pangasinan Alliance for Private Technical and Vocational Schools (PATVS) and of the Pangasinan Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said Japan needs 500 welders a month.

Representatives of a Japanese company based in Hokkaido and Nagasaki were in Dagupan recently to start a monthly recruitment activity in coordination with the office of Mayor Belen Fernandez.

The companies want to hire 500 welders every month from Dagupan, Pangasinan, and from other parts of the country.

To qualify, the workers must have a National Certificate II from the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) or from accredited private technical vocational schools.

Workers who qualified will need to undergo free Nihongo language training, which takes three to four months.

Mayor Fernandez said she is interested to host the language training. Abalos said the language training will be started for an initial batch of 50 to 100 welders.

Those who complete their language training will not have to pay any agency fee or provide for their air fare in going to Japan since the program is a government-to-government arrangement.

Meanwhile, Abalos revealed that a Manila-based company is in need of 10,000 construction workers, which can be supplied by Pangasinan and Dagupan City.
