Espino urges P’sinan Women to ‘protect the future of the province’

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – “Protect the future of the province, protect the future generation through your guidance — women of the province— for a better Pangasinan.”

This was said by Governor Amado I. Espino, III, as he urged participants of the 3rd Provincial Women’s Convention on March 21, held at the Provincial Training Center in Lingayen, to stand up and continue their advocacies in empowering fellow women and safeguarding the youth of the province.

Governor Amado I. Espino, III urges the womenfolk to protect the future of Pangasinan as he leads the celebration of the 3rd Provincial Women’s Month held at the Provincial Training and Development Center on March 22.

“The Provincial Government stands up for the rights of Filipino women” said Provincial Population Office (PPO) Chief Ellesworth Gonzales, stressing the importance of the intensified integration of Gender and Development (GAD) in policies and the roles of each organization in its implementation.

According to Gonzales, programs like the Livelihood Assistance Program (LAP), which benefited 131 women groups who received economic assistance for their capital totaling 49 million pesos since its inception under the leadership of former governor, now 5th District Representative Amado T. Espino Jr in 2008 continue in pushing for the progression of women in the society.

Gonzales added that engaging men in the Responsible Parenthood program along with LAP will benefit women, their families and their communities up to the grassroots level.

Pegged at We Make Change, Work for Women #WomenCanChange, organized by  the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipinas Nasyonal, Inc. (KALIPI) –Pangasinan Chapter in partnership with JCI Philippines highlighted this year’s National Women’s Month celebration with discussions on women’s education and population, economic empowerment through livelihood programs, free beauty make-over, legal consultation as well as skills and livelihood endeavors demonstrations.

This year’s celebration of women’s month using social media hashtag #WomenCanChange gave women and other marginalized groups from all over the world the opportunity to voice out their sentiments and be heard. -Krystle Mae J. Reamon
