SP tells bus companies: Settle your differences or else…

THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) directed anew two of the bus companies with terminals in Dagupan City to settle their differences, or else it will pass a resolution asking Mayor Belen Fernandez to order both to transfer their terminals presently located beside each other near a street intersection on Perez Boulevard in the city.

Councilor Alvin Coquia, chairman on the committee on transportation, said the latest directive was the third time the SP told Victory Liner and Solid North to settle their feud over access to a road now owned by Victory Liner.

Victory Liner bars Solid North to pass through when entering and exiting from its terminal.

Only buses of Victory Liner and those of its sister company Five Star Bus are able to use the road.

Without access to the road, Solid North is forced to enter and exit through Perez Boulevard, disrupting traffic flow.

Solid North filed a civil case against Victory Liner after it blocked its access by installing steel guards behind its terminal. The case is still pending in court.

Coquia noted that the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) continues to tolerate Solid North’s buses to enter and exit on Perez Boulevard.

The SP said the presence of bus terminals of Victory Liner, Solid North and Five Star have long been violating a long standing ordinance enacted way back in 1981 prohibiting terminals whose egress and ingress are located within 100 meters away from street intersections, which was amended last year to 200 meters.

The road lot at the back of the bus terminals used to be a road leading to the Chinese Cemetery which was sold to Victory Liner by the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce when then Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim was its president.

The lot was previously donated to the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce by the Lioanag family to provide the Chinese community access to their cemetery. (Leonardo Micua)
