TARGET: PERYAHAN NG BAYAN OPERATIONS

AN intensified police operation against illegal gambling in Pangasinan was launched last week, specifically targeting the operation of Peryahan ng Bayan (PnB) in all towns and cities.

This was ordered by the Police Region 1 office after it determined that Speedgame Inc. is the lone authorized franchise-holder of the Small Town Lottery (STL) of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office in Pangasinan.

PNP Regional Director P/Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula ordered Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) Director, P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, who in turn directed all police chiefs in the province to implement the order to arrest operators and employees of PnB, an alleged front for jueteng operations.

Anthony Angangco, administrator of Speedgame Inc., had complained and asked the help of the police to act against PnB since it does not hold the franchise to operate.

On January 3, PCSO officials were present during the STL operations of Speedgame Inc. in Urdaneta City to affirm the latter’s legitimate status.

“Hindi makalatag ang STL because the problem right now is jueteng operation in Pangasinan disguised as Peryahan ng Bayan,” Angangco said.

P/ Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, PPPO community relations chief, confirmed that Lee had relayed the order to police chiefs in Pangasinan to protect Speedgame’s operations by stopping PnB’s operations in the towns.

Meanwhile, on January 2, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s ‘Oplan Bolilyo’, police operations against jueteng, in Barangay Gomez in Malasiqui resulted in the arrest of Melvin Mendoza, Wilson Garcia, Marve Villanueva, Raymark Sava, Dexter Aguila, Cecilio Frias, Ali Guillermo, Ramon Armas and Renier Padilla and confiscated assorted jueteng paraphernalia including P2,765 pesos in different denominations.

They were charged in court for violation of PD 1602 as amended by RA 9287 at the Municipal Trial Court in San Carlos City. However, they were released by the court upon payment of P24,000 bail bond by each for their provisional liberty. (Nora Dominguez)
