LINGAYEN—Seven officials of Barangay Tumbar in the town were suspended for three months by the Office of the Ombudsman for Luzon for nepotism.

Ordered suspended were Barangay Chairman Larry Reyes, Gina De Guzman, Aldrin Prado, Joan Arias, Billy Ramos and Recto Cervantes, all barangay councilmen and Mary Resolete, barangay secretary.

They were all given three-month suspension beginning this month for appointing their relatives to the barangay task force on youth development.

The case stemmed from the complaint filed before the Ombudsman by former Barangay Chairman Jaime Ferrer on January 2016 for nepotism against the seven village officials, an act considered as simple misconduct.

Under the law, officials cannot appoint their relatives up to the fourth degree 4th of consanguinity to any position in the local government.

Meanwhile, the respondents said they have no plan to appeal the decision of the Ombudsman and will just serve their three-month suspension which will lapse in April this year.

It was learned the Department of the Interior and Local Government designated the barangay treasurer as the caretaker of the barangay. (Leonardo Micua)
