Ilocos region workers get wage increase
THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced a P30 increase in the daily wage of workers in the private sector, effective January 25 this year.
The increase including its implementing Rules and Regulations, was contained in Wage Order RB1-19, for Large Non-Agriculture and Commercial Fishing Establishments issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).
The same order fixed the increase in daily wages of workers in Medium Agriculture Non-Agriculture Establishment at P20.
Meanwhile, workers in micro establishments and agriculture will receive P13 wage increase per day.
The wage order became effective January 25, 15 days upon its publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the region, covering Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
RTWPB-1 Chair Nathaniel V. Lacambra, also DOLE-RO I Regional Director, said the wage order will benefit all workers in the private sector receiving minimum wage rates irrespective of their position, designation or employment status and manner in which they are receiving their wages.
Not covered by the wage order are domestic workers or kasambahay or others providing personal services to employers, i.e., family drivers, employees of registered barangay micro business enterprise (BMBEs) that have certificates of authority based on Republic Act 9178.
Lacambra said the board decided to increase the wages in the region to help the workers cope with the expected price increase of basic commodities this year.
Under Wage Order RB1-18, the daily minimum wage rates had been pegged from P243 to P280, depending on the industry the worker is employed. (Leonardo Micua)
