Dagupan to buy fire engine to meet city’s need

DAGUPAN City Mayor Belen Fernandez agreed to boost the 20 percent share from yearly collections derived from the implementation of the Fire Code of the Philippines held in trust fund to enable the city government to buy one fire engine for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Dagupan.

Fernandez told the KBP Forum on Tuesday that the city council passed a resolution authored by Councilor Jose N. Tamayo urging her to release the 20 percent share of the city government for the implementation of the fire code to enable the city to buy a fire engine.

“We shall buy one fire truck, not an ambulance as suggested earlier by the new Dagupan fire chief,” she said.

Tamayo told the council that the need to purchase a fire truck is urgent because the city has only ____ fire trucks which is inadequate to quickly put out fires in the city.

The city BFP has to rely on the Panda Fire Fighting Brigade, Urban Satellite Vision and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for support to put out fires in the city, he said.

Dagupan, Tamayo added, must have an additional fire engineer because the city is also considered one of the most disaster-stricken cities in the Philippines. (Leonardo Micua)
