LINGAYEN—The provincial government welcomed on Jan. 22 the 53 students from different universities in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam who are on a 29-day internship program in various fields of studies.

The Pangasinan State University (PSU), a member university of the Southeast Asian Ministry of Education Organization (SEAMEO), is hosting the students, said Dr. Sally Jarin, PSU director for international affairs.

She told the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), headed by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, that the students are doing their internship program in education, engineering, business administration, tourism and agriculture.

Their activities include field visits to schools, business centers, farms and factories.

Jarin explained that PSU has linkages to 62 universities in ASEAN under (SEAMEO), including partner universities in South Korea, Japan and China.

For this visit, the 53 students from Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam were chosen by their respective ministries of education.

Ponlawat Promwinai, 19, and a 4th year student in Thailand, said she is glad that she was among the students given the chance to visit the Philippines.

She added she is not new to the kind of weather in the Philippines which she added is similar to theirs.

She said the people she and his fellow students met are warm and hospitable and the food that they eat are just like what they have in her home country, Thailand. (Leonardo Micua)
