THE Tunnel Gang struck again in Pangasinan and carted away some Php 1 million and valuables from the Producer Bank in Barangay Carmen West, Rosales in the early morning of November 20.

The gang dug a tunnel from manhole in an adjacent irrigated rice field to the bank.

According to Amy Agpoon Fernandez, 56, area manager of Producers Bank, the robbery was reported by bank employees at 8:40 a.m. of November 20.

Ronie Ulep, 27, incoming duty guard of Brgy Nagsaag, San Manuel, and Madeleine Magtibay, 34, branch manager, of Producers Bank, of Brgy Capitan Tomas, Rosales, discovered the robbery upon entering the bank for the day’s operations.

Investigation found the tunnel dug by the gang through a man hole connected to the irrigation field that which served as entry and exit points.

They used a hydraulic jack to lift the flooring of the bank to enter its premises.

Two hydraulic jacks; two fry bars; one metal hack saw, one manual hand drill, one disposable lighter, one plastic plate and wood chunks were found inside the bank.

Magtibay theorized that once the robbers were inside the bank, they cut the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera wire and forcibly destroyed the vault room door from where they carted away undetermined amount of money at presstime.

The group is believed also to be responsible for the series of bank robberies in Pangasinan using the same modus (Leonardo Micua)
