PLAN TO RECLAIM MCADORE JUNKED

THE Dagupan City government will finally use the P119 million in proceeds from the sale of the former MC Adore Hotel in 2012.

The amount was earmarked by Sangguniang Panlungsod to fund the initial phase of the new government center or city hall to be built soon in Barangay Pantal.

By tapping it, the city government effectively decided to forego efforts to seek the return of the MC Adore property from the AMB ALC Holdings that bought the property in 2012.

Councilor Jeslito Seen, chairman on the committee on appropriations, said Thursday the amount was part of the P126 million savings/surplus appropriated by the city council to fund a supplemental budget proposed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

Appropriated were P60 million for initial construction costs of the center; P25 million procurement of consulting services for the preparation, architectural and engineering design and plan; and P21 million for the cost for the road and site development.

It is projected that to complete the construction of the four-storey government center, the city government will likely apply for a P500-P600 million loan.

Mayor Fernandez said the proceeds from the sale of MC Adore was put in a trust fund in 2013 when she assumed office. while the city government negotiated to buy back the property at the same price.

But in the course of negotiations, the city government and the buyer filed charges and counter charges.

Seen said, with the plan to construct the new center, the city government has decided not to pursue its original plan to recover the MC Adore property.

Fernandez said MC Adore was bought by the city purposely ostensibly to convert it into a new Dagupan City Hall.

The new city hall will replace the old Dagupan City Hall built in 1925, considered today as the oldest city hall in the country. (Leonardo Micua)
