2017 CITY FIESTA

A NEW traffic experiment is set to be implemented in Dagupan City to test impact and results for possible adoption when Dagupan City celebrates its fiesta in December, coinciding with the Christmas season.

Councilor Jose N. Tamayo, chairman on committee on laws and judiciary, said the only distinct feature of the traffic experiment is making Perez Boulevard a one-way road, exclusively for vehicles going east.

Under the traffic experiment set to be approved via a resolution on Monday (October 30), all vehicles entering Dagupan will pass through the downtown loop, comprising of  A.B. Fernandez Avenue, the city’s principal street, M.H. del Pilar Street and Burgos street through Perez Boulevard.

With the traffic experiment in effect, all existing traffic ordinances are deemed suspended. (Rizal Street as well as a portion of Galvan Street are closed for repair and rehabilitation).

“We will see if the innovation can fix the nagging traffic in the city. If it will, we will continue this till December,” Tamayo said, adding that if the traffic gridlock exacerbates, it will be terminated immediately.

Tamayo said traffic congestion usually happens in Dagupan when thousands of people flock to the city during its fiesta and Christmas. (Leonardo Micua)
