AFTER complying with all the requirements of the Provincial and Regional Oversight Committee, Natividad has been officially declared the 7th drug free municipality in Pangasinan.

Board Member Noel Bince (who represented Governor Amado Espino III) and representatives of the regional offices of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of Interior and Local Government, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office led the ceremonial declaration of Natividad as drug free town.

Lawyer Marvin Tavares, OIC Regional Director of PDEA Region 1 said Natividad joins Agno, Alaminos City, Bani, Dasol, Laoac and San Nicolas as among the drug-free towns in the province.

PDEA Provincial Officer Dexter Asayco said the municipalities of Burgos and Anda will be declared as drug free this week.

Asayco said Natividad had 16 drug affected Barangays and 100 self-confessed drug personalities who surrendered.

Bince urged communities to continue to fully cooperation in the campaign to eradicate the drug problem.

P/Chief Inspector I Christopher Natnat, Deputy Police Communications Relations Chief who represented PD Lee, said, there are already 35 towns that have been cleared of illegal drugs but subject to Regional Oversight Committee’s validation.

Asayco said validation cannot be extended if the drug-free towns declared by the provincial committee are unable to complete the documents, particularly the certification of the whereabouts of drug personalities, and the absence of municipal ordinances.

Tavares said LGU’s have to certify and account for the whereabouts of all the drug personalities that surrendered.

Meanwhile, PDEA Regional Office reported that 405 barangays of the 1,257 drug affected Barangays in Pangasinan have already been cleared. 852 remain affected.
