Laborer dies in treasure hunt in Sual
SUAL Police is investigating the mysterious death of a man reportedly found inside a deep excavation in Barangay Poblacion Sual.
P/Chief Inspector June Tabigo-on, Sual police chief, identified the victim as Arniel Fernandez, 25 years old, laborer and a resident of said place, who allegedly died in a treasure hunting activity near the cemetery in Poblacion.

Tabigo-on had requested an autopsy on the body of the victim to determine the exact cause of death and the subsequent investigation, he said, will depend on the result of the autopsy report of the Municipal Health Unit.
He said the death of Fernandez was not immediately reported to the police and only came to learn about it a day after he was found dead.
The police determined that he was found lifeless at 8 p.m. of October 17, but it was only on October 18, 4 p.m. when Fernandez’s death was reported.
Initially the investigation is determining the legality of the treasure hunting activity which Tabig-on believes has been going on for some time judging from the depth of the excavation.
DENR Pangasinan and Sual Police have cordoned off the excavation area and are initially verifying the copy of the recovered treasure hunting permit issued by the National Museum to one Asuncion Mariano (with address as Imus Cavite).
“DENR may issue a seizure order depending on the results of the initial investigation and verification of the legality of the excavation,” Tabig-on said. (Nora Dominguez)
