PATROL BOATS FOR ISLAND BARANGAYS

THE Dagupan City Police has been asked to allocate part of their proposed P6.4 million budget for 2018 for the purchase of patrol boats to serve the city’s five isolated island barangays and one sitio.

The call was made by Councilor Nicanor Aquino during a committee hearing on the city’s Annual Invest Plan (AIP) for 2018 that allocated the amount for the purchase of motor vehicles.

Aquino said the police must also consider buying patrol boats and not just patrol cars to enable it to respond faster to peace and order problems in the island barangays 24/7.

The island villages of Dagupan are Pugaro (and its Sitio Suit), Salapingao, Lomboy, Calmay and Carael.

He said while Barangays Pugaro, Calmay and Carael can be reached by land via Binmaley town, but these can be reached in about 30 minutes from mainland Dagupan with the use of motor boats.

Aquino added that there are no police community precincts in any of the island villages and the police only rely on barangay officials and their force multipliers as first responders in the maintenance of peace in these areas.

Ortiz agreed to consider the recommendation as he admitted that his station either hires passenger motorboats moored along the Pantal River or Dawel river or borrow the motorboat of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in order to respond to an emergency in the island barangays.
