ANOTHER Dagupeña maltreated by her employers in Bahrain was repatriated by the city government’s Public Employment and Services Office (PESO).

Teresa Q. Imatong, 48, of Barangay Tebeng was already in prison for 14 days for trumped up charges against her by her employer when her husband, a city hall employee asked PESO manager Jocelyn Siapno for help.

Imatong already worked for three years in the Middle East as household service provider. She was already on her second employment in Bahrain when her employers maltreated her.

“I was trying to cut my contract short with them as I was made to work more than what was stipulated in my contract. Aside from my employer, I was made to work at the house of his two sons and I could hardly rest from my work. So I decided to part ways with them. It was then that my employer’s sons and their mother started mauling me altogether. They even dragged me to the police station and put me in prison,” said Imatong.

While in prison, Imatong’s friends relayed her sad fate to her family in Dagupan.

With the timely intervention of the PESO through Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, the city coordinated with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and worked for the repatriation of Imatong.

Fernandez shouldered the cost of her return airfare.

Imatong is now among the 98 Overseas Filipino Workers repatriated by the city government out of the 120 cases referred to the PESO.

Siapno advised city residents to verify their recruitment agency’s legal accreditation to avoid being victimized by illegal recruiters or avoid getting into trouble while working abroad.

“Imatong did not pass through our office,” Siapno said.

Kung meron pong gustong humingi ng ating assistance, our PESO hotline, which is open 24/7, is 09258083808,” said Siapno. (CIO/JCB)
