Casa Real fully completed by mid next year
LINGAYEN–Completion of the restoration work on the Casa Real to its original grandeur and beauty is expected by the middle part of next year.
This was disclosed by Malu Elduayan, provincial tourism and cultural affairs officer of Pangasinan, who said Phases I and II of the restoration project costing P35 million have been completed.
Phase 1 of the project was funded by the provincial government at a cost of P5 million and Phase II’s P30 million came from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Phase III’s P50 million to come from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), will be for the construction of the parking area at the back of the edifice and the construction of some of the building’s interior parts.
Elduayan said the National Historical and Cultural Commission (NHCC) already submitted the design of Phase III for approval of TIEZA and once approved, it will be implemented by DPWH.
The only problem, she said, is the reduction of the P50 million previously committed by TIEZA to the project to P39 million.
The restoration work aims to recreate the old grandeur and beauty of Casa Real that served as the first seat of the provincial government under the Spanish rule.
The restored Casa Real will serve as the first Pangasinan provincial museum to become the depository of artifacts and work of arts, including books and documents pertaining to Pangasinan.
The Casa Real is located in Lingayen’s Poblacion area, sandwiched by the Municipal Hall of Lingayen and the Provincial Jail. (Leonardo Micua)
