DECEMBER TARGET STILL ON

THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office confirmed that 29 barangays in 8 towns, 2 cities in Pangasinan are still drug-affected.

P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, chief of the PPPO’s Police Community Relations Office, said the list was already submitted to the Provincial Anti-Drug Advisory Council, headed by Gov. Amado Espino III, for its reference.

The remaining towns and cities (and their mayors) that remain drug-affected as validated by PPPO are: Binmaley (Mayor Simplicio Rosario), Mangatarem (Mayor Ramil Ventenilla), San Carlos City (Mayor Joseres Resuello), Dagupan City (Mayor Belen Fernandez), Mangaldan (Mayor Bonafe Parayno), San Fabian (Mayor Constante Agbayani), Asingan (Mayor Heidee Chua), Balungao (Mayor Philipp Peralta), Rosales (Mayor Susan Casareno) and Villasis (Mayor Nonato Abrenica).

The towns and city already cleared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) are Anda, Laoac, Agno, Bani, Dasol, San Nicolas and Natividad towns as well as Alaminos City.

Sto. Tomas has been assigned the status of drug-free even before the war on drugs was declared.

So far, 28 towns and 1 city have been cleared by PPPO but remain to be validated by PDEA.

Florentino told the KBP Forum that 1,272 out of the 1,242 drug-affected barangays have already been cleared, or 97 percent of total barangays in Pangasinan.

The still drug-affected barangays are:

a) Binmaley (2): Gayaman, Poblacion,

b) Mangatarem (4): Bantocaling, Maravilla Pob. Olo, Cacamposan, Sonson Ongkit,

c) San Carlos City (8): Bacnar, Balite Sur, Burgos Padlan, Caingal, Coliling, Pagal, San Pedro-Taloy, Tandoc

d) Dagupan City (2): Barangay II (Nueva), Pugaro Suit,

e) Mangaldan (2): Bari and Poblacion

f) San Fabian (2) Aramal, Cayanga

g) Villasis (1): Pob Zone 1

h) Asingan (1): Macalong

i) Balungao (2): Rajal, San Raymundo

j) Rosales (5): Camangaan, Carmen West, San Bartolome, San Pedro West, Zone I (Pob)

Florentino said while the latest directive of President Rodrigo Duterte is for PDEA to handle all anti-drug operations such as buy-bust and search warrant operations, he clarified that barangay drug clearing is still a continuing activity of the PNP.

If PNP receives information about the presence of drug personalities in the watch list, the information is dispatched immediately to PDEA for it to operate.

He added that the police will concentrate its efforts on the remaining drug personalities in the list that can not be located.

Meanwhile, PDEA Regional Information Officer Bismark Bengawan said the target of the PNP to make Pangasinan drug-free by December is “very, very feasible” as he confirmed that Pangasinan to date has the most number of drug-cleared towns and cities in the region.

According to Bengwayan, PNP’s role in the anti-drug campaign is still most vital because the PNP is vice chairman of Municipal and City Anti-Drug Abuse Councils in every locality. (Leonardo Micua)
