Rehabilitation of city’s 1,313 self-confessed drug users/pushers on
THE rehabilitation of the 1,313 self-confessed drug pushers and users in Dagupan City who surrendered since the war of drugs was declared is on.
P/Superintendent Franklin Ortiz, Dagupan police chief, said, however, only the low and medium risk drug users/pushers are made to undergo special health treatment, lectures and training program over 48 sessions under the community-based rehabilitation program (CBRP).
The rehabilitation program for the high risk cases is different, according to Ortiz.
“Once the drug user or pusher is assessed by the city health office to be highly affected by illegal drugs, he/she is endorsed to the Training and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) in Bonuan as in-house patients,” he said.
The committee tasked to oversee the progress of the CBRP, is composed of representatives the Dagupan PNP, City Social Welfare Office, City Health Office and Sagip User Rehabilitation and Empowerment (SURE) of the City Government.
The CBRP programs are being held in barangays where regular drug tests are being conducted.
Ortiz said most of the 1,313 that surrendered have already been evaluated by the City Health Office.
So far, 40 cases have been identified as high risk.
The low and medium risk drug cases have been divided into 50 per batch.
The CBRP’s rehab and training program are conducted every weekend but a special schedule during weekdays is available for those who cannot attend the weekend activities. (Nora Dominguez)
