Rehabilitated drug-users endorsed to city hall for jobs
THE members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) asked the city government to give self-confessed drug personalities who completed rehabilitation program the highest priority for opportunity to be employed in the city’s infrastructure projects being implemented.
The recommendation was contained in a resolution authored by Councilor Dennis Canto.
It said that some of the 1,300 drug personalities that surrendered in Dagupan are already undergoing drug rehabilitation as in-patients of the Dagupan Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DTRC) and out-patients on community-based program.
The resolution acknowledged that upon completion of their rehabilitation, the reformed drug-affected persons need jobs to support themselves and their families.
Canto said they can be harnessed in the many infrastructure projects yet to be implemented this year.
Meanwhile, Erjohn Pangilinan, focal person for the Masa Masid (Mamamayan Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayan Ayaw sa sa Droga) program, said rehabilitation program for confessed drug users already began in July, and is already being held in several barangays.
He expressed optimism that all the 1,300 drug surrenderers shall have served the rehab program by December this year and their names will be finally removed from the drug list by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) soon as they have been validated to have completely dropped their drug habit.
They will also be encouraged to enroll in Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) job training programs. (Leonardo Micua)
