THE old iconic Bolinao Lighthouse badly needs repair and renovation if it is expected to continue to function efficiently to and guide ships to safety.

First District Rep. Jesus ‘Boying’ Celeste said he has asked the Congress to allocate funds for the lighthouse’s urgent renovation and upgrading of its equipment.

He said Congress had allocated P30 million in 2014 budget for the purpose but the funds were never released for still unknown reasons.

Celeste said the lighthouse continues to warn and direct ships at night.

The lighthouse, located at the peak of Barangay Patar, was designed and constructed in 1905 by a team of Filipino, American and British architects. (Nora Dominguez)
