Dagupan warns motorcycle riders: Wear your helmets

MOTORCYCLE riders riding through the city streets without helmets will be arrested and fined P1,500

The city’s Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) Carlito Ocampo said the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.and City Ordinance No. 1922-2008 will be strictly enforced effective September 25, Monday.

“We will pursue a more proactive and preventive approach to secure the safety of the motorists, their passengers and pedestrians at all times through the mandatory enforcement on the use of standard protective motorcycle helmet,” Ocampo said.

POSO will also enforce R.A. 10666, an Act providing for the Safety of Children aboard Motorcycle or the “Children’s Safety on Motorcycle Act of 2015”.

Under the law, a child below 18 years old is prohibited to ride on a two-wheeled motor vehicle on public road unless his feet can comfortably reach the standard foot peg of the motorcycle; that his arms can reach around and grasp the waist of the motorcycle rider; and that he is wearing the standard protective helmet or gear.

Further, the law prohibits child sitting in front of the rider in transit, except in case of medical emergencies.

Riders caught in violation of the “Children’s Safety on Motorcycle Act of 2015” will be meted with the penalty of paying P3,000 for the first offense; P5,000 for the second offense; P10,000 for 3rd offense with a one-month suspension of license.

Succeeding offenses will mean the automatic revocation of the driver’s issued license. (CIO/JCB)
