Dagupan athletes prepare for Batang Pinoy 2017

PRE-QUALIFIED student-athletes in the city are undergoing training in preparation for the 2017 Batang Pinoy sports competition slated in Vigan, Ilocos Sur on October 22-28.

The athletes started training from August 22 and will continue till October 20 after qualifying in the elimination round conducted by the Dagupan City Sports Commission (DCSC) in partnership with the Department of Education under Schools Division Superintendent Lorna G. Bugayong.

The DCSC conducted an elimination round in archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, chess, karatedo, swimming and taekwondo.

Leading the qualified athletes that will compete in the Batang Pinoy event are the city’s gold medalists in the recent Region 1 Athletic Association (IRAA) meet and the 2017 Palarong Pambansa are Jared Cole B. Sua of Mother Goose and Janelle Alisa Frances T. Lin of Genesis School.

Sua was a gold medalist in archery while Lin was gold medalist in swimming.

Others who will be competing in the under-13 archery are Janina Erica Deloso of Saint Albert the Great School (SAGS) and Alyssa Isabelle Cuenco of Northfield Academy while Sua along with Paulo Miguel D. Deloso of SAGS, Hailee Frances Y. Micu of Saint John Cathedral School (SJCS) and Ma. Zaniah Keilah P. Ordoñez of University of Luzon will be competing in the 13-15 years old category in archery.

Completing the arnis pool are Melquizedick D. Macam of La Sallete, Camille A. Saingan of Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS), Arriane C. Pontanes of DCNHS, Bianca D. Oxino of Pantal Elementary School, Angela V. Dela Cruz, Christine Joy D. Domondon and Danica F. Ibañez all three from DCNHS.

Susan M. Ramadan of Bonuan Boquig National High School (BBNHS), Rhedlen S. Infante of DCNHS, Candice Ragutana of Pugaro High School, and Remelyn M. Soriano of BBNHS will be competing in the athletics.

To compete in badminton are Sofia Margaret B. Reyes of JCAI, Blessed D. Erguiza of Pantal Elementary School, Vince Alejson V. Alejandrino of Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI) and Vincent Ryan H. Bacani of DCNHS.

In chess, those competing are Paul Justine A. Fernandez of East Central Integrated School (ECIS), Kim M. Salinas of SJCS, John Rhuiz L. Bravo and Eivane Jacob Z. Cruz both of La Sallete, Danever James P. Ubando of DCNHS and Kacey Andrea O. Javier of Mother Goose.

Competing in karatedo are Shane Enrico L. Vasquez of Northfield Academy, Haiden Jhared F. Garcia of ECIS, Rhon Jacob N. Juguilon of West Central 1, Gladwyn Kyle D. Lachica of Mother Goose, Rea Beatrice A. Bistudio of Divine Word Academy of Dagupan (DWAD), Samantha D. Lopez of West Central 1, Abigail Iona Y. Brito of Mother Goose, Arianne Isabel Y. Brito of PUI and Rheila Francesca M. Duya of DCNHS.

The athletes who will compete in swimming are Juaquin Antonio Catapang of Dominican School, Mark Bryan Rioflorido of Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU), Sophia Mae Garcia of LNU, Leticia Mae Jam Macanlalay of La Marea, Gabriel Angelo B. Jizmundo of Dominican School, Hans Lyle Pasaoa and Sean Iverson C. Fabiana, John Patrick Villacorta, Mari Alexie M. Adriano, all from La Sallete, Jessie B. Cacapit of LNU and Lin.

Seeing action in taekwondo are Frederich Carl S. Cuña, Ronzjie A. Cancino of SAGS, Jake Luiz Q. Juguilon of ECIS, Tristan Ignatius S. Romero of Dominican School, Mikhaella Adelynne N. Fabroa of SAGS, Allana Francine Q. Perez of SJCS, Jean Ara V. Miranda of SAGS, Cystel Anne F. Morga of DCNHS, and Jhed Anne Q. Juguilon of ECIS. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
