Retired U.S. soldier shot dead by tandem-riding hitmen

URDANETA CITY — After coming from the court house, a retired U.S. soldier was shot dead by tandem-riding armed men at 10:00 a.m. last August 1 along the Manila North Road in Barangay San Vicente, Urdaneta.

The victim, Danilo Cariaga of Barangay Carusucan, Asingan was shot while on board his car.

P/Supt. Neil Miro, city police chief, said Cariaga has just attended a hearing of his case before the Regional Trial Court, when he was attacked.

Police investigation showed that while the victim’s SUV was on standby in the middle of a traffic, the hitmen riding a blue colored motorcycle approached the vehicle and fired at the victim using a hand gun.

Cariaga’s driver sped towards Villasis town till he reached the police station where he reported the incident and rushed the victim to Dr. Marcelo M. Chan Memorial Hospital Inc. in Carmen, Rosales but was pronounced dead on arrival. (Leonardo Micua/Nora Dominguez)
