Dagupan ranks 13th in nationwide competitive index
DAGUPAN City jumped to No. 13 from No. 15 last year among all component cities in terms of competitiveness.
This was announced during the 5th National Competitiveness Summit and Awards Ceremony 2017 held at the Philippine International Convention Center on August 16.
In economic dynamism, the city also ranked No.16 from No. 17 last year, ranked No. 9 in government efficiency from No. 13 last year and ranked No. 16 in infrastructure from No. 28 last year.
Over the years, the city’s ranking in the national competitiveness index made big leaps after Mayor Belen T. Fernandez employed good governance with zero corruption and implemented numerous programs and projects.
In 2015, the city climbed to No. 19 from No. 44 in 2014; from 76th to 28th in infrastructure; and from 25th to 17th in economic dynamism.
Among the numerous infrastructure projects implemented by Mayor Fernandez in the last four years included new school buildings, roads and bridges, multi-functional gymnasiums, a three-storey evacuation center, facilities for senior citizens, women and children, health and day care centers in the barangays and upgrading of the public markets.
She also provided funds for health care, livelihood and scholarships for almost 800 poor but deserving students; strengthened the city’s resiliency on disaster by purchasing state-of-the-arts equipment and devices with skills training to its personnel, among others. (CIO/JCB)
