BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF MOSQUITOES

USE mosquito fish instead of using chemicals to fight mosquitoes.

This advice was reiterated by Dr. Westley Rosario, head of BFAR – National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center.

He advised the public to use biological control through dispersal of more mosquito fish in stagnant waters because it is the most effective biological control for the spread of mosquitoes.

He said, years ago when bullfrogs were also dispersed with the same purpose to control the spread of mosquitoes.

Mosquito fish multiply in canals of fishponds in the BFAR Center in Bonuan Binloc and can be obtained free said Rosario.

He said, mosquito fish are not new in the Philippines, the Americans brought mosquito fish to fight malaria during World War II, and different states in America like California use it to fight the spread of mosquitoes.
